NEIGHBORHOOD
DEVELOPMENT
In almost every neighborhood of Newark, there are neglected properties and land. I propose legislation that targets slumlords and challenges the executive branch, the administration, to improve city owned properties, enhancing the quality of life for all residents.

By partnering with nonprofits and other charitable organizations we can mobilize city wide efforts to ensure every resident has the skills required obtains their high school diploma as well as higher educational opportunities.
Our city run services should include more wrap around social emotional learning programs for individuals especially our youth and seniors.

Newark needs to put Newarkers back to work. Now is the time to unite residents and businesses in need of local skills.
RJ Gourdine is a native Newarker and proud graduate of the Newark Public Schools. A resident of the South Ward's Weequahic neighborhood, RJ sees the obstacles many Newarkers face including crime, financial status, and poli-tricks. RJ believes that every Newarker, regardless of age should have access to city that enhances their livelihood.
Currently, RJ coordinates afterschool programming for students in grades 3-8 who are taught life skills including financial literacy. As a Council Member at Large, he would like to address quality of life issues as well as the needs of youth and senior citizens. RJ supports renovating local parks and recreational facilities across the city so that children and adults will have less blighted spaces and more great places to visit and learn in our neighborhoods. This and maintaining public safety and addressing houselessness and mental illness will be top priorities.
RJ believes that ALL Newarkers deserve an accountable and transparent government that truly supports them and their future. Newark has 5 political wards, and the services this city provides and creates should enhance every ward, every neighborhood, every block, but most important, every resident.
